Weather and Cars

I was supposed to work about 2 hours away at a courthouse this morning.  The area was expected to be experiencing a winter storm with ice that was to start this morning.  I started to my car and the ice had been falling just long enough for the sidewalks to be iced over.  I called and rescheduled the appointment.  I rarely do that because of weather. But, even with a 4wd, I didn’t want to drive 2 hours in an ice storm.  By afternoon, it had turned to all rain and by the time I finished my afternoon appointment and arrived back home, the surfaces were freezing again.

As I was leaving my client’s location, I had started the car and was about to head out.  I shifted to 1st gear at the same time I turned on my lights.  My lights went off and the radio went off.  So, I switched the lights back off and on again and everything was fine.  I drove about a block to a gas station because I figured I was going to need the gas for the trip tomorrow.  When I got back in the car…. nothing.  There was no electricity.  So, I fiddled with the switches, brake, etcetera… trying to see if there was a short.  Nothing.  I decided that it was time to call a tow truck.  So, I started pushing the vehicle out of the way of the gas pumps.  I got about 5 or 10 feet and everything came back on….. to which my alarm stated, “Thank you.” Yeah… my sentiments exactly. Now, my decision is whether I want to risk taking it 2 hours away tomorrow.
