I broke it

I broke my XMRadio receiver.  I was finally getting around to mounting it in the car rather than having it laying by the shifter.  I put the mount in, ran the wire over to the fuse block and wired it directly to the fuse block.  I wanted it to come on and go off with the car so that I didn’t have to worry about it running the battery down on the really cold nights.  I didn’t think to check the actual voltage.  I subsequently found out that the cigarette lighter plug on the end actually converts the voltage down to 5 volts. So….. it no longer works.

I had to order another one, but I found one for $20 on ebay.

Maybe I’m Old Fashioned…

… but I expect my music to concentrate on being musical first; then political later. There are lots of songs that are protest songs that don’t feel like you’re getting smacked in the face with the statement.  There were lots of protest songs that were art first; protest second. There were lots of songs that were social statements without the art suffering.  It seems like today, the statement comes first and the art is a very distant second.

I mention this because one of my favorite bands, The Eagles, released a new CD at Walmart.  The very first song feels like the guys were sitting around looking for material and one of them said, “Hey, I have this speech I wrote for a rally.” And another answered, “Let’s see if we can sing it in 4 part harmony.” It doesn’t work.  It’s too much statement and too little art.  It’s not even close to being the Eagles quality that I remember.

Overall, the album has a few statements that somebody wanted to make.  But, it’s decent anyway.  It’s just not great like some of the past albums.  It doesn’t have a real GREAT song on it that people will remember. There is no “Last Resort” or “Peaceful, Easy Feeling”. There is no “Desperado”.  There is no “Lyin’ Eyes”.  I could go on.  But, I won’t.

Deja Vu

As I was driving today, I was listening to a talk radio show on XM. I started to get a feeling of Deja Vu, and then realized that I had heard the part of the radio show to which I was listening.  I knew what was going to be said by the host and the callers for about 3 callers.  Then, I realized that I could not have heard the show before, because it was talking about current happenings.  Then I started wondering if it really was a repeat of  only a week or so old.   I just checked the website for the show.  It doesn’t show it as a repeat.

Grossly Inappropriate?

I was glancing through a catalog and I saw a Christmas ornament with the words “Merry Christmas From Heaven”.  I looked closer and saw the words in the center are, “I love you all dearly, so don’t shed a tear, I’m spending my Christmas with Jesus this year.”

I did a mental double-take.  What?!?  Is it just me?  Or is that hugely inappropriate?  I have put ornaments on the tree that remind me of certain people.  Or as tributes, even. But, I presume that the first Christmas — if not the first few — without someone would be made even harder by such an ornament.  Maybe it’s just me.

Sometimes, Timing Amazes Me

Sometimes, the timing of things amazes me.  I think it’s sometimes just simple coincidence.  Other times, I think something else is going on.

Today, I worked about 30 miles away for two places.  One thing that happened at the first place was sort of funny because of the recent post I made about women and cleavage.  I had gone in where there are several women working.  I sat down at one of the desks to work and was involved in my work.  One of the young women in the office was sitting between me and the door at another desk.  A UPS man came in and had her sign for a package.  I didn’t catch most of the interaction; only a word or two. After he left, I noticed the young woman and another talking.  Because I was working, I only caught part of their conversation, but it was about the UPS man looking at her cleavage. She said something about, “…. don’t have anything down there do I?” The second woman said, “Eyes up here,” as she made a motion from her chest to her eyes.” That got my attention, so I looked at the top she was wearing.  It was presentable enough; but was a bit low-cut.   One thing I will never understand is women wearing low-cut tops and then complaining when a man looks at their chest.  If you don’t want men to look at your chest, don’t draw attention to it.

From there, I went to the second place to work and fixed one of the computers.  After leaving there, I went looking for a couple of things from Lowes.  When I left there, I got a page saying that one of their other computers was not able to see the server at all. They thought that I was already near home, but I let them know that I was not far away and would stop back. I went back to the location to find that the network card was disabled, for some unknown reason.  They looked shocked and wanted to know how it got disabled.  I said, “I don’t know.  Maybe it was a ghost or goblin.”  Later, I said, “Maybe I wasn’t supposed to go home right away.” I firmly believe that things sometimes happen for reasons we don’t see.  Maybe I would have been in an accident or something. Who knows? One interesting thing, is that I was driving home when a car passed me.  As it pulled in front, I noticed a set of keys in the trunk lock. I sped up and got her attention so that i could signal to her. Then, I wondered if perhaps I was supposed to be there at that split second and there was a series of events that were put into play.

A Little Video Background

There are quite a few videos that show what it is that the Patriot Guard Riders do.  I did a search on Youtube and found some that I recommend.
